The Ma Mian skirt is named for its resemblance to ancient trapezoidal pagodas. It became most popular during the Ming and Qing dynasties, worn by everyone due to its diversity and memorable symbolism. Suitable for traditional festivals, weddings, and everyday wear, it remains one of the most sought-after styles of hanfu today.

This horse-faced skirt draws inspiration from China's intangible heritage "锦绣堆" , also known as the "Eight Ruins Painting"—a traditional art form where fragmented antiques are collaged into a cohesive composition.

The skirt's design flows from churning sea waves at the hem to a scroll-inspired landscape, extending to a sky dotted with egrets. The mountain-sea motifs within the scroll form an auspicious pattern of "Fushan Shouhai" (lucky mountains and longevity sea), symbolizing prosperity and longevity.

This craft embodies the Chinese aesthetic: "Not a book, yet surpassing books; not a painting, yet exceeding paintings." It blends ornate collages with scholarly charm, creating a unique elegance that marries opulence with intellectual depth.
